First Melbourne show for Queensland Artist JME Pool

See JME's latest work in the Suburban windows from 7th October 2008.

JME Pool’s work is a mixture of thoughts, memories and moral commentary surrounding the child and childhood. This centres on the idea of primordial evil and whether we are born with this evil inherent within us. Elements of humor and symbolism are an important aspect of JME’s work. Humor works to soften the moral commentary and develop recourse.

ROBIN MICHELSON
What say you of art?
Who’s imagery is so,
that every drop of its delicious paint,
By virtue of its presence,
is to present and impact a meal,
Both sumptuous and filling.

Entrée of colours and textures,
Can only give way to a dinner of substance and form,
Dessert, tantalizing totality,
Sweetness lingering as to imbue its essence,
To brand the imagination,
enriching the senses.

- Robin Michelson, surrealist

LISA COX

LISA COX

Jul 1, 2008

Lisa Cox was born and raised in the Bayside area. She is married and lives with her husband and three young children.
Qualified as a Primary and Special education teacher, Lisa spent 10 years in the teaching profession before leaving to raise her family and to focus on developing as an artist. Her style has evolved over recent years but Lisa’s time spent working with young children can still be seen as a positive influence in her work.
Lisa has successfully exhibited at many Art Shows, Galleries and Exhibitions including most recently the ART Melbourne 2008 Exhibition.

Lisa’s style has been described as ‘naive’ and ‘mythological’ and depicts a playful and joyful search for identity. The rich use of colour and texture within her paintings helps to bring them to life. This allows the viewer to engage and identify with her art, giving it such broad appeal.

Vibrant , colourful works by Local Bayside artist.

'Painting is my key to the secret garden, my way down the rabbit hole, my looking glass.

Coloring in at school started it.

Transforming a blank piece of paper into amazing colors has always struck me as magical. Over the years painting has filled me with a sense of accomplishment, and it has proven a most amendable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality.

I love the creative power which painting gives me. I paint from the inside out. Though I work as deliberately as I can, consciously employing traditional techniques, my unconscious is project manager. The concreteness of the activity frees my imagination and it “sees” each piece into existence........'

'Tranquility'

The colorful and vibrant creations of Katrina Read, born and raised in Australia, reflect the beauty of the natural landscape for which the continent is so renowned. Indeed, the various topographies of her home have greatly influenced Read’s art, as has her experience in other creative realms such as acting and writing. Working with acrylic on canvas, she depicts the essence of her subject matter—be it a windswept beach or peacefully swimming koi—with brushstrokes sometimes feathered, other times crisp. Light plays a crucial role in these images, creating a sense of infinite space, liveliness, and depth in each piece. Above all, in work Read strives to “capture a sense of calm and peace” that connect with the viewer on an emotional level.

Katrina Read’s paintings have been exhibited throughout Australia, Asia, and North America and have featured in several leading design magazines and publications. She currently works and resides in Australia.

Bird ….. Transparent series

1st to 15th April 2008

'This exhibition is an extension of my bird series…..
I have been experimenting with new colours and textures- mixing different paints to look for that Ever beautiful colour….

I work on the background then look for mistakes or flaws in the paint texture to build on the bird story……

I’m attracted firstly by the colour and am always looking for that new combination…….colours that work well together.

I build up layers of texture and work in the colour of the background.

Scale is important…… the colours I’m looking for work well on a larger scale.'
